Dear Mukesh,

At the outset, let me clarify that this site is designed by a group of senior Banking Professionals to assist Bank Customers at large to provide guidance for resolution of any complain/query/grievance in respect of financial services. This site does not belong to any Bank or a regulator, which may please be noted.

As regards your grievance let me tell you that the only means available to banks to authenticate customers is signatures on their system. Customers signatures are scanned from account opening forms and stored for easy retrieval for verification while passing cheques or for entertaining any further requests from customers.

Customers have to be consistent with regard to signatures. Banks do not get protection under law in case of discrepancy in customers signature on cheque and in the system and particularly if it is proved the signature has been forged. Banks cannot afford to risk passing cheuqes when there is a signature mismatch.

Certain amount of variation in signatures over a period of time is natural.  But this is not the banks call as they have to go by what is on their record. Past action of the bank in passing cheques with minor variation cannot be held against it  for return of cheque where the bank has not been satisfied with the signature.

So without getting into blame game, please visit your branch and lodge fresh specimen signature so that you won't get into similar situation.

Regards
