This is with reference to the above subject wherein i have deposited an bank cheque vide cheque number 134122 dated 23/03/2016 which i had deposited on 4th april 2016 at 10:30am at chandpara branch ( branch id 6046) for my sbi account number XXXXXXXXXXX biswajit sarkar, savings account, which i was asked to deposit in drop box. I went to bank to know the status of the cheque and they told me that it takes 15 days to get it cleared as it is others bank cheque.  The cheque that i have submitted was an at par cheque which was supposed to get cleared by 3 -4 working days . Due to this delay i had to face lot of financial and moral questions which has effected my social status.
Just now checked the status with transaction id tn 979301 on 11/04/16 at 14:58:09 at your bank atm anadapur branch. Kindly look into the same.
Thanks and regards
Biswajit sarkar

Dear Biswajit

At the outset, let me clarify that this site is designed and managed by a group of Senior Banking Professionals to assist Bank Customers at large to provide guidance for resolution of any complain/query/grievance in respect of financial services. This site does not belong to any Bank or a regulator, which may please be noted.

Under the concept of 'speed clearing', any bank cheque should get cleared, as rightly stated, in a period of 4 - 5 days.  The statement of the bank officials that it would take 15 days for clearance, since the cheque pertained to another bank, is ridiculous.  They probably are not aware of the technical advancement in clearing of cheques pan India from anywhere.  However, in the present instance, it would be, first of all appropriate to find out from the bank, as to how they proposed to get the cheque collected.  I hope, they have not couriered / posted it to the branch of the other bank for collection.  That would be most stupid.  Please insist on their process of collection.  In future, do handover cheques to the branch officials and demand for the signed counterfoil / acknowledgement.  They can't refuse.  If the amount of the cheque is substantial, then it would be much more painful.
