Hi, I have a savings account with bank in Kothrud branch Pune. I wanted to close this account and since I have moved to Baner in pune so I visited the Baner branch and filled the account closer form. For which they asked to submit the account closer form to the Kothrud Branch only which is far away from my home. Then I asked them to change the branch of my account for that also they asked me to visit the Kothrud branch. This is such a poor service to customer in this age of online banking. I have transferred my another bank account using my online banking only without visiting any branch and that bank is asking to visit the specific branches for such small things. I am very disappointed.

Dear Rajat

At the outset, let me clarify that this site is designed by a group of Senior Banking Professionals to assist Bank Customers at large to provide guidance for resolution of any complain/query/grievance in respect of financial services. This site does not belong to any Bank or a regulator, which may please be noted.

Your observation is correct.  These days, a request for closure or transfer of the account can be given in any branch of the bank, since all the banks are on Core Banking System.  Asking you to visit Kothrud branch in person is ridiculous. Please mail your grievance to the Nodal Officer of the Bank, whose details would be available on their website.

Dear Rajat,

At the outset, let me clarify that this site is designed by a group of senior Banking Professionals to assist Bank Customers at large to provide guidance for resolution of any complain/query/grievance in respect of financial services. This site does not belong to any Bank or a regulator, which may please be noted.

Your disappointment is understandable.  I am not sure about the particular bank's internal policy for handling requests for closure of accounts submitted other than at home branch.  However, the general practice  followed by banks under 'anywhere banking' is such requests can be submitted at any branch and the receiving branch forwards the same to the home branch for necessary action. This not only avoids hassles but also enhance customer experience.

I suggest you to bring your experience to notice of the  Nodal Officer of your bank through email or letter. It may result in revisiting bank's internal guidelines  or pulling up the branch which refused to accept your request if the bank already had in place suitable guidelines in this regard. You can get contact details of Nodal Officer from the bank's website.

Regards
